The works began in 1386. The Duomo
is an exceptional example of Lombard Gothic architecture.
The Cathedral was commissioned by Gian Galeazzo Visconti,
and dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente. It is an immense
mountain of marble shaped into statues, pinnacles,
buttresses, rampant arches and pillars. The highest
pinnacle is topped with a statue of the Virgin Mary,
known as the La Madonnina
The Cathedral Museum of Piazza Duonmo nr. 14 is open
from Monday to Sunday from 10.00 a.m. to 01.15 p.m.
and from 03.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. (closed on Bank Holidays).
